Day By Day
-
Day 1: Taipei Riverside Bike Paths (95km / 292m)
Guests will meet their expert guide in their hotel lobby and prepare their bikes and nutrition. After a short ride, we get on to the purpose-built bicycle path, one of the longest in the world and the finest in Asia. This totally car-free space affords a wonderful opportunity to relax and enjoy the vistas the city has to offer.
With many wildlife sanctuaries along the riverside, the route is an oasis of peace and quiet amongst the hustle and bustle of the city. The final stop is the Pier 5 at Dadaochen, a popular open-air space with many bars and food vendors.
-
Day 2: Yangmingshan Circuit Route (72km / 1245m)
After a hearty breakfast, the riders head out towards Yangmingshan National Park, just 25km north from Taipei Main Station. That such a beautiful and near-pristine environment exists so close to a capital city is truly a wonder. An extinct volcanic area, the lush rainforest and sinewy roads offer a perfect cycling environment. Monkey troops can often be seen looking on as we speed by.
A stop at the National Palace Museum after a big descent is followed by coffee and lunch at the caffeine Mecca for Taipei’s cyclists, Lutetia.
-
Day 3: Pinglin-Shiding Tea Terrace Loop (109km / 1877m)
Situated only 30km from Yangmingshan, the area around Pinglin is more dramatic and a jungle environment in the truest sense.
We will climb out of Taipei’s south-eastern neighbourhood and up through the trees along narrow winding roads, as the jungle hums and buzzes with life all around us. A thrilling descent takes us down to Thousand Island Lake and then we climb up through terraces of tea.
Then it’s down to Shiding Old Tree, where we will eat handmade dumplings against the backdrop of this picturesque village. We’ll ride back up through the jungle and onto a long descent back to Taipei. Saving the best for last!
